The Young Entrepreneurship of the Year Award recognises outstanding achievement by young individuals and aims to foster entrepreneurship in Fiji by encouraging youths to be job creators rather than job seekers. The award will be presented to a company that best exemplifies the qualities of effective leadership, innovative applied know-how, demonstrates financial viability and sound potential for growth, and engages in continuous learning or other improvement opportunities designed to advance the economic, social and environmental prospects of the enterprise. Entrants for this award must be Fijian nationals aged between 18 and 35 at the time of entering their application.
Twenty-seven-year-old, Rinesh Sharam advanced his Intro Green Distributors farm after pursuing Engineering Scholarship in India in Automated Hydroponics & Aeroponics System - a soilless farming method. The system grows vegetables and fruits in controlled environment all year round and reduced labor by 90%. The company’s vision is to operate the farm entirely on Solar Energy with recycled water. There's no harmful emissions released and the farm is monitored through a smartphone with checks on temperature, moisture levels at any given time. Mr Sharam’s vision is to have multiple "Hydroponic Smart Farms" not only in Fiji, but the entire Pacific region.
